Festive season eating tips
As the festive season is already in full swing with lots of parties and a time where we tend to over indulge I thought would give you some simple tips on how to be mindful of what we put in our bodies this holiday.
1. While the Christmas break is a time to rest, don’t sit down all day. We already know that the sofa is one of the worst things for your posture but its also really important to move your body. After your Christmas lunch try taking a walk to get your body moving and aid digestion.
2. Don’t over stuff your self. Have a light breakfast and eat mindfully, instead of consuming all the treats in front of you, stop and think do I really want this. It’s a time to treat your self but be mindful of how may treat’s you consume. Stop eating when you are full. After a normal sized meal take a 20-minute rest before you eat any more, it takes that long for your brain to realize your stomach is full. It’s very easy to over eat and research suggests that we consume an average of 3000 calories in our Christmas lunch which is more than the recommended daily allowance for a fully grown man.
3. Alcohol; with lots of event and parties I’m sure most of us drink more than we would normally. Try to combat this with having a glass of water between each drink and keep tabs on how much you are drinking. If you have over done it stay hydrated and drink detox teas. I would recommend the Dr Stuarts detox tea, which is in most health food shops.
4. Don’t stress, it is time to spend with family and friends and relax, but quite often Christmas day can become stressful, cooking for so many people and the endless to do list. The small things we can fret over like the overcooked food, cleaning and everything being perfect. Those little things doesn’t really matter, its about having quality time with people.
Finally have fun and enjoy your time off with family and friends. It’s a time to appreciate what we have and reflect on the year just gone and look forward to the year ahead.
I want to wish you all a very happy new year from all of us at Spirohealth
